For those seeking exclusivity and a sense of personal space, the cornerstone and major influence in the design of the Villas at North Island is to ensure that guests would really enjoy spending time in the privacy and space of their Villa, if they so wished.
The North Island Villas each measure 450 square meters (4,890 square feet) for a feel of exclusivity and the freedom to spread out and enjoy a unique, private, island-style experience. The Villas bring that ‘sense of freedom’ to life, while offering casual simplicity and space in which to free the mind and refresh the spirit. Each Villa has two bedrooms; a master bedroom suite and a second bedroom, that can accommodate children (at additional cost or converted into a study with internet-access.
About the Villas
North Island placed Villas 1 to 10 discretely in the tree-line, opening onto Anse d'est Beach. Villa North Island (Villa #11) is completely unique in its siting: The layout has been designed to accommodate the incline along the extreme northern side of the Anse d'est Beach, tucking it secretively away in the Takamaka forest. The panoramic beach view from this Villa is truly spectacular and it is this, together with the unique manipulation in design, that separates the Villa North Island from the rest of the suites on North Island. Yes; These are pictures of actual villas at North Island. The 11 villas were individually handcrafted by Seychellois and African artisans with selective materials (wood, local stone, glass and custom thatched roofing) flown in and assembled on the Island. Each Villa is completely self-contained and raised over a meter off ground to catch the cooling island breeze.

On arrival you are personally met by the Chef who determines your favorite dishes and special dietary needs to tailor-make meals daily according to your tastes. North Island Sunset Bar:
A walk along Grande Anse Beach as the sun sets is an enlivening experience not to be missed - especially as the Sunset Bar lies at the end of the walk. This simple, rustic bar is located just above the high water mark on the northern end of Grande Anse. Drinks and light snacks can be served for those wanting to enjoy this beach.
North island was first discovered in 1784 by ship-wrecked Portuguese sailors and purchased later in 1826 by the French Beaufond family, who used it to cultivate fruit and spices such as vanilla, patchouli, cinnamon, ylang-ylang, citronella, nutmeg and cloves. Today, the private island is set aside for the exclusive use of just 22 guests.

The North Island Experience
The Seychelles form part of the world's longest coral reef system, offering some of the world's best scuba diving sites. Numerous dive sites have been identified around North Island and its nearest neighbour Silhouette Island. North Island offers a "guided" scuba experience and the island’s dive masters are not only experts in scuba practices but also in the underwater universe. For snorkelling, there are some great sites around North Island and Silhouette Island. Masks and fins are available at the dive centre (at no charge) if you wish to explore these sites, either on your own or in the company of a guide. Note that Padi Open Water certification is required for diver participation (North Island does offer both simple starter and advanced diving courses).
Sea kayaks are also available with all necessary tuition and guidance provided. Island bicycles are provided for guest use and are fun to explore one side of the Island to the other with ease. Each Villa at North Island has its own dedicated Island Buggie - specially-adapted electric golf carts for the convenience of guests. Boating around North Island includes short sunset cruises; or other trips could include visits to main Mahé island and the outer islands, including the spectacular Bird islands, Arid and Cousin, and can be arranged at an extra cost. Depending on the time of year guests may be lucky enough to witness Hawksbill and Green turtles laying eggs on the eastern and western beaches of North Island.
The activities on offer on North Island are designed around the complete enjoyment of all that the Island and its magic have to offer from guided diving or island hopping to complete no-schedule freedom to move around the environ at your own pace. There’s plenty to choose from..

About North Island Seychelles
Covering a surface area of 462 acres, the North Island features eleven beach villas, and four exquisite beaches.
A brief history The island was first discovered in 1784 by ship-wrecked Portuguese sailors and purchased later in 1826 by a French lady, who used it to cultivate fruit and spices such as vanilla, patchouli, cinnamon, ylang-ylang, citronella, nutmeg and cloves. After the collapse of the agricultural industries in Seychelles [following the abolishment of slavery and subsequent lack of farm laborers] North Island was sold in the 1970s, and in its state of abandonment grew into ruins as an old farm littered with livestock and infested by rodents, feral cats and alien weed. The rodent population gorged on the rotting flesh of fallen coconuts and worse, the island’s rare bird species, such as the Magpie Robin. Combined, the parasites rapidly began to suffocate the marshland which supported extraordinary indigenous species of plants.
Noah’s Ark Project When the plight of the island, and its treasured flora and fauna, came to the attention of ecologists, a rescue operation was launched and the search began for the perfect organization to partner with and restore the island to its former state. In 1997, Colin Bell - former CEO of Wilderness Safaris (South Africa), and his partners purchased North Island and marked a new era for the Island. With experience, knowledge and significant investment, they have managed to reverse the long-endured damage to the island through their ‘Noah’s Ark’ project, under which giant tortoises, rare birds and indigenous trees, such as the Coco de Mer, are being rehabilitated on the island. North island has also launched a research project to monitor the breeding patterns of the endangered Hawksbill and Green turtles when they come ashore to lay their eggs – a rare spectacle that guests are invited to witness.
