Fly fishing in Seychelles

With the ever present rave reviews from the media [Wild on the Fly magazine, ESPN .etc] the popularity of Seychelles as a world-class fly fishing destination is rapidly increasing.

Located thousands of miles from anywhere in the Amirantes, the limitless bonefish [called Banane in the Seychelles and Pati Pati in the Tuamoutu Islands], giant trevally, barracuda and milkfish found in the Seychelles have made it a world-class salt water angling destination since 1998.

Fly Fishing

A place where even beginners can sometimes catch 10 bonefish a day and where four world records have been set within a week’s stay, the Alphonse Island in the Seychelles is now one of the most highly sought-after fly fishing destinations in the world. Anglers from around the globe have been heading to the Islands for an opportunity to catch the legendary Milkfish & powerful Bonefish.

The shallow flats of St. Francois, about half an hour away from Alphonse Island, are considered one of the best locations in the world for fly-fishing.

A small island, triangular in shape with 1.2km sides, Alphonse is a private
island with a single resort reached by an hour’s flight from Mahe.

Alphonse Island lies in the heart of the Indian Ocean, 7° South of the Equator and 450 kms South West of Mahé. It is a part of the Alphonse Group that extends 16 kms from North to South and comprises three islands: Alphonse in the North, discovered on 28th January 1730 by Chevalier Alphonse de Pontevez, commanding the French Fregate “Le Lys”, Bijoutier in the middle, so named for its jewel-like beauty, and St Francois in the South, named after Saint-François de Sales.

*** The best time for fly fishing in the Seychelles is from the end of September to mid May.
